Quarterback of the Week – Ryan Tannehill
RYAN TANNEHILL NAMED
DAVEY O’BRIEN QUARTERBACK OF THE WEEK
October 17, 2011
FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas A&M senior Ryan Tannehill has been named the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week after leading the Aggies to a 55-28 win over Baylor. Tannehill was nearly unstoppable through the air, lighting up the Bears defense for six touchdowns.
Guiding the Aggies to a momentous conference victory, the senior went 25-for-37 and piled up 415 yards through the air, a total that ranks third in Texas A&M history. Facing a 7-3 deficit after the first quarter, Tannehill tossed three touchdowns in the second quarter to give the Aggies a 24-14 advantage at halftime. He would continue his impressive play in the second half, throwing for three more scores and clinching the victory. The Big Spring, Texas native’s six touchdowns are a career high and match the second-highest total in Aggies history. He also collected 55 rushing yards on the day to finish with 470 yards of total offense, the second-most in school history.
“The thing about Ryan, no matter what the situation – ahead or behind or a close game – his mentality never changes,” Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman said of the signal-caller. “He’s very consistent and doesn’t get fazed very much. He just wants to win. I thought he had a heck of a game today.”
On the year, Tannehill has posted 1,742 passing yards and has connected for 13 touchdowns. He averages 328.8 yards of total offense per game, ranking him ninth in the country. Tannehill and the No. 17-ranked Aggies (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) will travel to face conference foe Iowa State (3-3, 0-3 Big 12) this Saturday.
