Quarterback of the Week – Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson Named Davey
O’Brien Quarterback of the Week
October 3, 2011
FORT WORTH, Texas – Following a dominant 48-17 win over then-No. 8 Nebraska, Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson has been named the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week. The win sends the Badgers to 5-0 on the year and a 1-0 start in Big Ten play.
The senior connected on 14-of-20 pass attempts en route to collecting 255 passing yards. In only five games as a Badger, Wilson has thrown for at least two touchdowns in each game and has totaled 1,391 yards in the air. He currently ranks as the nation’s second-most efficient passer and has thrown for a touchdown in 29 straight games, the longest current streak in the nation.
“It’s huge for our football team, huge for our football program,” Wilson said. “And the fact that we came out with a win, the fact that we played a great game and defense stepped up and made some great plays for us and got the offense the ball back. And to play a great game like that against a great team in Nebraska, is pretty awesome.”
Despite trailing 14-7 early in the second quarter, Wilson and the rest of the Wisconsin team stepped up and put the game away, scoring five straight touchdowns to take a 41-14 lead. The Richmond, Va., native also collected 32 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground. Wisconsin, now ranked as the fourth-best team in the country, will take a bye week before hosting Indiana on Oct. 15.
