Denard Robinson Named Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week

September 13, 2010

FORT WORTH, Texas – Sophomore Denard Robinson has been named the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week after his spectacular performance in a 28-24 victory Saturday over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The quarterback from Deerfield Beach, Fla. followed up his impressive showing against Connecticut in week one by running and passing for 502 yards, snapping single-game Michigan quarterback marks for total offense and rushing for the second consecutive week. Robinson, who became just the ninth quarterback in Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) history to run and pass for at least 200 yards, also set a Big Ten rushing record for quarterbacks with 258 yards against the Irish.

Nicknamed “Shoelace” because of his affinity for leaving his cleats unlaced, Robinson was calm and composed leading the Wolverines on a 12-play, 72-yard scoring drive to win the game.

“If he keeps making progress like this, this is going to be really exciting,” said Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez. “He’s so instinctive. He’s going to keep getting better. There are at least 12 or 15 plays he could be better on, which is exciting.”

He currently leads the nation in rushing yards (227.5 avg.) and total offense (442.50 avg.) through two weeks.
